People often think of drawing or painting when talking about art.

Art and school, the stereotypical couple. Are the two capable of existing separately? Can a student obtain a high school diploma without having some form of exposure to the creation and criticism of artwork? Many of us would argue no, but while some may envision painting or drawing when they hear the word “art,” they fail to recognize the rich variety the discipline offers such as performing, culinary and other forms of visual arts. But though people may choose to practice various arts as a hobby, Art Minors is preparing to bring an astounding opportunity for parents in Chillicothe, Ohio to give their children a chance to learn the various realms of art.

Beginning in January of 2019, we will kick off our Real Life After School Program (RLASP), which we developed as a response to a lack of activities for children to participate in outside of athletics. The program has been designed for children in K-6 and exists to educate school-aged children in painting, drawing, and culinary arts. Moreover, our RLASP is rooted in the strong ambition to instill an appreciation of the arts in pupils and empower them to develop their artistic ability further. But rather than simply teach children, we are preparing to assist students in pursuing a career in the arts if they choose to do so, and RLASP is an initial step in the process. Furthermore, rather than ignoring the involvement of parents and community, we are providing an opportunity for adults to partake in RLASP: volunteering.

Since our founding, the organization has valued community and desires to create volunteering opportunities in Chillicothe. As a result, parents and various members of the community are invited and encouraged to volunteer with us to assist with teaching, cooking, and, supervision. If you’re interested in volunteering with us or have questions about our Real Life After School Program, give us a call at 740-572-2571 or email at artminorsinc@gmail.com.
