Just a little bit about us…
Watching children struggle with domestic and societal hardships inspired the need for Art Minors in our city. We became curious as to how we are to help our community. Giving children the opportunity to express themselves in art, profoundly effects their academics positively. With careful consideration, we have chosen various forms of art that excite and inspire these young minds.
Art Minors, Inc. is a faith-based non profit in the arts, reaching children from all backgrounds. We target children in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. We are currently offering three art mediums – culinary, performing, and visual arts. Curriculum will be age specific. Offering basic classes isn’t sufficient, so we intend to provide training in drawing, various types of painting, pottery design, mosaics, and finish. Furthermore, we are planning to provide a full culinary kitchen with our own organic garden serving as a backdrop to teach children lessons in nutrition, food preparation and design. The garden will also serve as a way to teach the importance of home grown herbs and produce. Soon we will add other art mediums such as computer, concrete, jewelry, metal, photography, and concrete and wood design.
Being an admirer of education, we intend to provide reading and computer labs for our after school and summer programs. We hold the stance that each child attending our after school programs must work on their homework in the first hour, with the aid of a volunteer, if needed, prior to enjoying the next two hours at their chosen field of art.
